Friday's 5 Quirky Questions with Emma Hillman

1. What was the first concert you attended (without your parents) and do you still listen to
the band/artist today?

The first concert I attended without my parents (but with my best friend) was some type
of dance party in the middle of France’s biggest arena. You could see dozens of artists
and DJs in one single night and it used to be very popular. I went to that one specifically
to see one band: Take That. If you’re American, you might not have heard of them and
I apologize! I had a huge crush on Robbie Williams when I was a teenager. The crush
is still there, even though I’m married and he’s got a fiancée. I guess those things never
fade! I even named our cat Robbie (hey, it was the year of the R and it was the first name I
thought of!).
Anyhow, back to that concert, they only sang one song and it was frighteningly short, but I
remember very well the moment our eyes met. Robbie and I. It was fate. Or so my 14 year
old mind believed. It was a magical second!

2. What was the most recent show you watched on television?

On E4 (a British channel), they show reruns of Friends every evening, two or three
episodes in a row. I’ve therefore watched it all over again, from the first episode to the
last I’d never seen before. Some I remembered very well, some not at all. But it’s by re-
watching them that I really got it. That was a very good show! The dialogue, for one, is
amazing. I love looking at their clothes and crinkling my nose, asking myself ‘Did we really
wear these?!’ I read in a magazine that the channel has decided to stop the reruns from
September and that makes me sad. What a great way it was to go to bed after watching
Friends, a show that had no other goal but to make you smile?

3. Take out, What's for dinner?

Very good question! I think my daughter will want gnocchi. They’re cheese ones and I
make them with a cream sauce and shaved ham. Sprinkle with grated cheese. Enjoy!

4. Guilty movie pleasure, what is the one you re-watch?

When I’m sick and I have to stay home, I tend to re-watch Mr & Mrs. It’s not because it
has both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It isn’t even because they apparently fell in love
during the making of the movie. It’s just because well, I love it. I saw it the first time with
my husband when it was released. It was the last movie I saw in a long, long while as I
was pregnant with my daughter at the time (and newborns don’t let you go to the movies
often. As in never!). I remember going to the restaurant afterwards and talking about the
movie, giggling about the funny scenes (did you ever know Brad Pitt could be that funny?
). It holds some dear memories and whenever I watch it, it brings me back to that happy
place. Hence the perfect movie for when you’re ill!

5.  Favorite Hero in a book other then your own?

I love Ranger. I want more Ranger. I yearn for more Ranger scenes. Don’t know who
I’m talking about? Are you kidding me? (Go read the Stephanie Plum series by Janet
Evanovich). He’s the epitome cool guy. He’s sneaky and hot and he can make the heroine
burn with a single touch of his finger. He’s got his shortcomings, true, but I still love him.

Quirky Questions with Cherie De Sues

5 Quirky Questions No Comments »

Chérie De Sues, author of Tales of the Red Moon Clan, has done  everything an author can do in one year! She wrote five novels and two short stories, has contracts for half and built up her new website, blog, Twitter and Facebook presence. When Chérie isn't editing, writing, talking to fans or her editors, she is taking her dog, Reilly, to the dog park.

1. What was the first concert you attended (without your parents) and do you still listen to the band/artist today?

Okay, I was in High School when the group, "Bread", played in our auditorium. My classmates were so awed, nobody danced we just stared at them...The lead singer was a mountain of a man.

2. Have you ever lied about reading a particular book to impress someone? What was the book?

No, not that I remember. I do remember getting half way through "Jaws" and said I'd read the whole thing and found out the ending…I NEVER did that again!

3. What was the most recent show you watched on television?

The Olympics on my DVR. I'm addicted to winter sports and loved the ice-skating competitions, snowboarding and downhill racing.

4. Who would play you if your life was adapted for the big screen?

At one time or another I've heard I resembled, Marie Osmond and Mary Lou Henner. I never saw the resemblance, but maybe someone like Meryl Streep. I'm rough around the edges and soft on the inside.

5. Have you ever walked out of a movie theatre?

No, but I've had plenty of reasons to do just that! Dates who snored during the movie, grabbed a body part without notice or the film was splatterplunk horror. Yuck!

6. And speaking of movies, what's your favourite guilty pleasure film -- one you've seen multiple times?

Wow, that depends on my mood. I loved, "The Last of the Mohicans", "Twilight" and "Titanic". Those big sprawling movies about a great love gets me sappy.

   7. Who's your favourite female protagonist in books or movies?

I like gutsy women, who don't take any #@$% from anyone! Leia from "Star Wars" comes to mind. She could stop a man dead in his tracks with just a look. I enjoy writing women like that, who know their own worth  and are willing to meet a man half way.

8. Team Jacob or Team Edward?

Oh, to wish for a ménage…okay, Edward. I'm a romantic and enjoyed his music collection and the view from his bedroom tree.

1. If you HAD to replace your best friend with either a) Amy Winehouse, or b) Britney Spears, who would it be?

Wow! I like Amy's voice better, but I'd probably pick Britney. I have this idea that maybe I could fix her. Amy, I'm afraid, is a lost cause.

2. Which of your villains are you most like and why?

Hmmm. First I have to go back and think about my villains. I have a lot of them. Probably Blackstock from the Charmed & Dangerous series. He's so warped, but what he does is for his lost love. I can understand that. I don't approve, but I understand.

3. Do you have or have you ever wanted to get a tattoo?

I do not have one, but I absolutely want one. My problem is deciding what I want. It's has to be quirky and cool.

4. Do your characters speak to you?  If so, is there drinking involved?

My characters do talk to me all the time, and no there is no drinking involved. I don't need any help with my kind of crazy.

5. Which character from The Breakfast Club were you most like in high school?

Oh, Lord. Let me think. Probably Claire the Princess. I was a pretty good kid, and I had a lot of friends. But I loved the bad boys. :)

5 Quirky Questions 2 Comments »

If your first book was made into a movie, what famous actor would you want to play the part of the hero?

While writing Love Fang, I pictured Gerard Butler as he appeared in Dracula 2000 as John Wright, my vampire hero.  In the course of my fang series, I added Alexander Skarsgard as Luc, and for the fifth book, which I’m currently writing, I’m picturing Richard Armitage as an evolved John.  Course, I like Colin Ferrell, too.  He’s such a bad boy.

You have to perform a circus act - the Spinning Wheel of Doom.  You must pick one of the following people to throw knives at you...1. Mariah Carey (Think Glitter) 2. Stevie Wonder 3. Paula Abdul.

Egad, such choices!  Well, one would assume that Stevie Wonder would be risky, given that he’d have to throw by feel and sound.  That said, if I were screaming at the top of my lungs, maybe he’d have a better chance of honing in on the sound and missing me.  The girls would probably prolong my agony by getting all dramatic.  Mariah would break out in song, and Paula would clap…and cry.  I’ll go with Stevie.

Keeping question number 3 in mind, what would be your last words of wisdom to those in attendance?

I’d thank everyone for showing up (I DO love an audience), and then I’d get all mushy and tell everyone to be kind to each other.

What is the worst pick-up line a man ever used on you, and did it work?

I’d just finished graduate school and had my first professional job, writing an employee magazine for the largest retailer of women’s shoes.  Let me tell you, shoe salesmen are an interesting lot.  One of them devised a “test” that he’d give women to decide whether he wanted to date them.  The first question on the test was, “Do you look better with your clothes on or off?”  I told him I looked better with them off, as long as you ignored the chastity belt.  Needless to say, we didn’t go out.

1. If you HAD to replace your best friend with either a) Amy Winehouse, or b) Britney Spears, who would it be?

Wow.  I love this question.  It's downright cruel.  I've gotta go with Amy Winehouse.  If I'm dealing with that level of drama, I want a British accent to go with it.

2. One of your villains shows up at your door.  What do you do?

I think if any of my characters showed up at my door I should probably run like hell.  I doubt any of them appreciate the things I put them through - the way I meddle in their lives and play god.  And some of them have claws!  Best to keep them on the other side of the door and make a break for the garage & my getaway car.

3. What is your favorite cuss word, and why?

It's like I'm on the Actor's Studio!  Well, James, I love getting creative with swearing, especially using unusual compounds.  Crapadelic is one of my favorites, but I also have a real soft spot for a nice traditional dammit or f**king hell.

4. St. Peter meets you at the Pearly Gates.  What's the first thing he says to you?

"So I hear you like to play God.  Knock it off.  We have one of those already."

5. Which of your villains are you most like and why?

Is it really disturbing to admit there is a little of me in all of them?  I'm not sure if he counts as a villain, but the poltergeist from my first novella had a distinct similarity to me.  A dweebie accountant with delusions of grandeur... yep, that sounds familiar.

The bitch is back, and nothing gets in her way. Except her own heart…

Shana Delray is hissing mad. The pride’s Alpha has chosen a mate—and it’s not her. Bred to be his consort, she’s not going to let some runt of the litter take her destined place—no matter how much ass she has to kick in the process.

Her way back into the pride is Caleb Minor—her former lover, the Alpha’s loyal enforcer…and the runt’s brother. And if she has to go through Caleb to get what she wants, so be it. She’ll do whatever it takes to pry the little usurper out of her way.

Caleb’s familiarity with Shana’s manipulative ways serves him well when he’s assigned to keep the seething she-cat in line. A nearly impossible task, as he’s forced to use his body—in more ways than one—to save her from herself. Now if only he can save his battered heart from the explosive desire that isn’t as dormant as he’d thought.

Caleb’s stronger now. Tougher and harder. And, to Shana’s fury, he won’t be used. The harder she pushes, the more she finds her heart yielding…and suddenly she wonders if she can somehow win back the man she spent a decade trying to destroy…

Warning: This book contains manipulations and power plays (in and out of the bedroom), a naughty kitten who deserves a good spanking, and a second chance at that first love.
