New Releases from Rita Sawyer

I want to welcome an author to the Savvy Blog to discuss her newest release - but be warned she shares some Hot details.

Hi Readers,

First of I’d like to say Thank You Terry for inviting me to drop in and tell you about my new release. Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Rita Sawyer and I write contemporary romances. My stories have varying heat levels from sweet to sizzling, and hopefully they all have a hint of humor. Aside from being a writer I’m an avid reader. I love to read anything across the romance genres. A few of my favorite authors would be Lori Foster, Eliza Gayle and Janet Chapman.

Now onto my new release. Book 2 in my Brazen Sister series To Unleash A Brazen Desire will be released in print June from Siren Publishing. It's the follow up to A Brazen Love Worth Fighting For.

Here a brief excerpt:

Her sighs brought him back to that night. It was a night that would

be forever imprinted on his brain. He would never forget the way she

sighed in his ear. Her breath had been moist and hot on his skin as she

panted breathlessly. The way they moved as one until she screamed

out his name branded his soul. He wasn’t a big enough sap to

romanticize the whole thing, and he knew she wasn’t, either. Raw lust

had sent them into each other’s arms for a night of wild sex, and the

important thing was neither of them was sorry it happened.

Sure he wished they’d been in a nicer place. And in spite of the

fact that he was sporting some colorful bruises the next morning, he

still considered it the hottest, most carnal night of his life. It wasn’t

something he imagined happening when he decided to come up here.

Sure, he wanted to be friendly with his sisters-in-law, but what they

had done went far beyond friendly. He heard spontaneity was the

mother of invention, and the shed was roomier than the backseat of a

car. And a bed would have been good, too, though they improvised

with the lounge chair cushions.

It wasn’t like he didn’t want to talk to her. The only thing he’d like more

than to talk to her was to be with her. Couldn’t she tell by the hours they

spent on the phone in the past few weeks? He loved talking to her, and

when she laughed it was infectious. The best and possibly the worst thing

about talking to her was hearing her sigh.

The characters in this story were fun to write. I found them easy to connect with and hope readers will too. Actually the whole series has been great to write. See I come from a big family and I like showing how there can be so many different facets there can be of people who were brought up in the same household. I really like being the one who gets to decide how they react to the situations I think up for them.

White Cat by Holly Black
BOOK ONE

White Cat

Cassel comes from a family of curse workers — people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, by the slightest touch of their hands. And since curse work is illegal, they're all mobsters, or con artists. Except for Cassel. He hasn't got the magic touch, so he's an outsider, the straight kid in a crooked family. You just have to ignore one small detail — he killed his best friend, Lila, three years ago.
Ever since, Cassel has carefully built up a façade of normalcy, blending into the crowd. But his façade starts crumbling when he starts sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat that wants to tell him something. He's noticing other disturbing things, too, including the strange behavior of his two brothers. They are keeping secrets from him, caught up in a mysterious plot. As Cassel begins to suspect he's part of a huge con game, he also wonders what really happened to Lila. Could she still be alive? To find that out, Cassel will have to out-con the conmen.
Holly Black has created a gripping tale of mobsters and dark magic where a single touch can bring love — or death — and your dreams might be more real than your memories.

DARK ORACLE by Alayna Williams

DARK ORACLE Publisher's Blurb:

TARA SHERIDAN HAS A GIFT...
AND IT ALMOST KILLED HER.

As a criminal profiler, Tara used science and her intuitive skill at Tarot card divination to track down the dangerous and depraved, including the serial killer who left her scarred from head to toe. Since that savage attack, Tara has been a recluse. But now an ancient secret society known as Delphi's Daughters has asked for her help in locating missing scientist Lowell Magnusson. And Tara, armed with her Tarot deck, her .38, and a stack of misgivings, agrees to try.

Tara immediately senses there is far more at stake than one man's life. At his government lab in the New Mexico desert, Magnusson had developed groundbreaking technology with terrifying potential. Working alongside the brusque but charismatic agent Harry Li, Tara discovers that Magnusson's daughter, Cassie, has knowledge that makes her a target too. The more Tara sees into the future, the more there is to fear. She knows she has to protect Cassie. But there may be no way to protect herself--from the enemies circling around her, or from the long-buried powers stirring to life within....

Note to the Reader:

Tarot cards have always fascinated me. From the time that I purchased my first deck in high school, I was intrigued by the rich symbolism, the colors, and the stories told by the cards. If I was an artist, I'd have loved to create my own deck. Such a task is incredible daunting...especially for someone like me who has barely enough artistic talent to be able to paint a wall without courting disaster!

Instead, I decided to write about the Tarot. Tara, the heroine of DARK ORACLE, is the embodiment of one of my favorite cards, the Queen of Swords. The Queen of Swords has always been a solitary figure, wounded by the sword of her own intellect. Its traditional meaning involves mourning and resolute action. Tara's much like that. She's a criminal profiler who uses Tarot cards to solve crimes, but she exiled herself from her work after she narrowly survived an attack by a serial killer. When Tara's forced to re-enter the world to work again, she must learn the lesson the Queen of Swords has to teach: the power of self-reliance. But she must move beyond that, to experience love and companionship again, become part of the world she's isolated herself from.

I hope that you enjoy exploring the cards with Tara.

New Releases from Rie McGaha

New Releases 1 Comment »

Hello everyone.

It’s nice to be here, and thank you Terry, for the invite. I’m Rie McGaha, and I am usually asked in interviews “what genre do you write?” My answer is, “Genre? We don’t need no stinking genre!” I have become an expert genre line crosser…I’ve even written story lines that are contemporary and historical at the same time! Most of my books are erotic romances that also fall into the paranormal genre, or the suspense/mystery genres. My current release, Ancient Blood, is the sequel to Blood Line and both are paranormal, erotic romances. Ancient Blood is a contemporary novel, but goes back to ancient Egypt to tell Ganda’s story.

When Blood Line first came out, I really had no idea that it would become a series. The original story came from a dream my husband, Nathan, had. He’s a truck driver and a huge sci-fi fan, and he has interactive dreams. Never a dull moment with him, day or night! But he had this dream that a werewolf attacked him one night while delivering a load. At first, I just shook my head and laughed at yet another weird dream from him, but as I thought about what he’d told me, I also thought it just might make a good book if I added a little to it.

After Blood Line came out, a secondary character, Ganda, became so popular with readers that they wanted to know her story and insisted she get a happy ending. Ancient Blood was not an easy write. I spent nearly two years getting it written and ready for an editor. The funny thing was that while writing it, another secondary character, Garan, began demanding his story. After all, he is Ganda’s uncle and he’s been around longer than she has, so why shouldn’t he have his own book? I haven’t finished that one, but the voices in my head will let me know when it’s time to get busy telling Garan’s story.

I’ve also got a contest running in celebration of the release of Ancient Blood. Everyone who enters receives a copy of Blood Line, while other winners will receiver copies of Ancient Blood, an Ancient Blood T-shirt, or poster. Go to my website at www.riemcgaha.com and click on the Ancient Blood tab in the menu to read an excerpt and learn how to enter and win. (Age 18 and over only, please.)

While I enjoy writing paranormal shape shifter stories, I recently tried my hand at sweet romance with a short little Valentine’s Day romance called Ghosts of Valentine’s Past. And along that line, I combined the paranormal and sweet in another short called Winters Night coming soon from Untreed Reads.

Writing erotic scenes has always been difficult for me and although every published work except, Ghosts Of Valentine’s Past, does fall in the erotic genre, it was a breath of fresh air to write non-erotic stories. Winter’s Night is not a romance either, which is something else new for me. I wasn’t sure if I could actually write a non-romantic story, after all, isn’t everything a romance? My love of the paranormal took over and Winter’s Night was born.

Whether or not I’ll continue writing non-erotic, non-romantic stories, I don’t know yet. I know not to say “never” however, and I’ll be waiting to see what the muse comes up with. For this summer though I am working on a pet project that I have wanted to do for some time. This will be co-authored with the fab William Maltese as part of his Wine Diaries.

I live in SE Oklahoma and love wine. But whenever I mention wineries in Oklahoma, people tend to laugh. Wine comes from France, Italy, Napa Valley, but not from Oklahoma. In fact, Oklahoma does have many wineries that produces some very tasty vino that my husband and I partake of regularly. So we will be spending the summer touring the wineries and vineyards of Oklahoma, sampling a little home brew and I will contribute about 140 pages to the Wine Diaries, due out next spring.

Please stop by my sight, enter the contest, check out some pages, sign my guest book and say hey. I love hearing from everyone.

Claimed, by Zoe Winters

New Releases 4 Comments »

Hi, I'm Zoe Winters, and I'm an indie author. This is the part where you're supposed to say “Hi, Zoe” and clap politely. Then at the end we get punch and cookies.

Claimed is the second novella in my Blood Lust anthology. Blood Lust actually is an intro to a much larger series called The Preternaturals Series that will mostly be novels. I know it's kind of a convoluted way to start things going, but I've made it my mission in life to confuse readers everywhere. Not really.

In the Preternaturals world we have demons, vampires, therians (Shifters. They don't like to be called “weres,” except werewolves who are just obstinate that way.) and of course the hapless humans who don't know what's going on. Though in the future they do. Some books happen in this future.

Each novella or book in the series is a separate romance story. So technically the books can be read in any order as stand alone books. But there is a larger story going on in the background that connects all the books together.

Claimed is about a very morally ambiguous vampire named Anthony. Anthony is first introduced as a side character in the first novella, Kept.

He's not a broody whiner who complains about how awful it is being a vampire and how guilty he feels. If you're a fan of the Angels, Stefans, and Bills of the world of vampires, Anthony might not be your cuppa. But if you like the Spikes, Damons, and Erics... well, step right up, have I got a vampire for you.

I really don't like the broody vampires. Nor do I like goody goody heroes. I have a real thing for the bad boy. And it doesn't get much badder than “You could become my dinner or you could become my lover.”

For Anthony, humans are a food group. He doesn't feel guilty. He doesn't kill his prey, but they are still prey. Charlee, aka Charlotte, is our heroine.

Anthony really has a thing for her, mainly because she's the only human who doesn't instinctively fear him, but instead banters with him. He likes her fire and that she makes him feel like a person again. So he's held himself back from feeding from her. He doesn't want to treat her like a victim or a food source.

But, during Kept he had some drugged therian blood and in Claimed Charlee's house is where he goes in the haze. He scares the crap out her, drinks from her, almost kills her, then wipes her memory. Only problem is, he's so upset she fears him now that his memory wipe is a little “too” good, and now she's got amnesia.

She becomes his responsibility to take care of and help, all while he's trying to get ready for a tournament where he'll compete to be the coven's vampire king for the next century. Everything our hero does seems to get Charlee more entangled in a world he never wanted her to have to even know about much less participate in or fear.

Here's a teaser from Claimed:

In one swift movement, he grabbed her around the waist and pulled her to him, her back pressed flush against his chest. Then he sank his fangs into the warm column of her throat.

Her blood was exactly as he’d imagined it would be. Sweet and somehow spicy, like her. He couldn’t get enough. He could drink her forever and was dimly aware that wasn’t possible, that at some point soon the blood would run out and he’d never drink from her again.

If you'd like to start reading the series, Kept is available as a free download here: http://zoewinters.wordpress.com/kept/

Claimed can be purchased on the Amazon Kindle and Smashwords.com for the awesomely low price of 99 cents.
